Every people who like to watch movies know well about Netflix. Netflix has a wide variety of quality movies and series with different genres that fall under different categories.

Movies make people relaxing and they can reduce stress through laughing.

People used to watch movies based on their favorite movie genre, like Drama, Comedy, Action. Netflix certainly has multiple genres. I personally like Action and Comedy.

Let’s take a look at the following graph to see which genre of movie are the most showed on Netflix from 2015 to 2021.

According to the data, most of the movies showed on Netflix fall in the Drama genre and Comedy movies are in the second most shown list.

So, what about the movie trend? Do the drama movies take the first place as the most showed genre in every year?

Think about the fashion trend, the movie trend is the same way.

I used to like a horror movie when I was young, but I prefer comedy more now. Let’s see how it changed.

Drama and comedy are obviously the most published movie on Netflix. When you look at the graph carefully, we will see that the action movie trend on Netflix was higher than thriller movies from 2015 to 2019.

Starting from 2019, the thriller movie trend has been gradually higher than the action movie trend.

There is one thing important for people who like Netflix like me. That is searching for a good choice of movie.

Even though Netflix has a strong recommendation engine, we sometimes struggle to search for a good choice of movie because of a lot of movies out there to watch.

The hidden gem score of a movie will address such a problem as the hidden gem score is determined based on the quality of the movie contents. That will lead to less time consuming on the searching movie. Let’s check the following graph.

In these randomly picked movies, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has the highest rating. That is one of my favorite movies as well. 🕷

In this article, we find patterns and characteristics around the quality of movies using a Netflix movie dataset from Kaggle.

The dataset contains information about the movie and its hidden gem score. It combines the data sourced by Netflix, Rotten Tomatoes, IMBD, posters, box office, trailers on YouTube, and more.

For further work, we can do a lot more than that like predicting the hidden gem score of the genre in upcoming years. Also, in which country, which genre of the movie will get a higher rank or which movie will be nominated to receive the award.

In my opinion, the recommendation system can also work together with hidden gem score to get a better movie recommendation on the individual’s favourite genre.
